Portable OS : Puppy Linux

What is a portable program?

Answer: A portable program is a piece of software that you can carry around with you on a portable device and use on any other computer. It can be your email program, your browser, system recovery tools or even an operating system. The coolest part about it, is that all of your data and settings are always stored on a thumbdrive so when you unplug the device, none of your personal data is left behind.

Have you ever been thinking running operating system (OS) from thumbdrive or cd? For those who use computer and internet frequently, you might know the answer. Yes .. we can run OS by just using thumbdrive. Why we need use thumbdrive if we have our computer running the OS. The answer is simple, it for your safety. OS can be corrupted easily especially windows. When the OS corrupted, we cannot do nothing.. except reformat back the hard drive to load a fresh copy of OS. What would happen if your hard drive formatted… all data will be lost. Yet, this is the advantage using Portable OS, by using thumbdrive or cd, we can backup our data before proceed to reformat the hard drive.

Now days , there are many Portable OS, and we can use it easily some more it free. Here is one of the. Puppy Linux doesn't require the kind of liposuction required by the meatier operating systems in the Hive Five in order to fit into a nice portable package. Weighing in at under 100MB, it can easily be loaded on everything from a CD to a USB drive with little fuss. The user interface is friendly even for a non-Linux user, and the basic tools you need for popular portable operations like partitioning and file recovery are readily available—although it's just as great for web browsing and basic computing.
